A baseline assessment is designed to measure a student’s understanding of syllabus concepts and standards. The purpose of benchmarking is to offer suggestions and guide the learning process. There are certain concepts with which students need to be familiar if they are to register in a specific level in any educational curriculum. While other curricula might not align perfectly with Cambridge, there are certain concepts that are common to all English programmes of study and it is these that the benchmarking attempts to assess.
The results of the assessment will determine the level at which the student is expected to achieve mastery in the Cambridge programme. Furthermore, the results will ascertain whether any intervention is necessary before placement takes place.

The Boston baseline assessments are aimed at learners wanting to enter the IGCSE Mathematics programme OR AS-level Mathematics programme and are tested respectively on an entry level for both these phases. The curriculum specification for different curriculums followed may differ and this results in a benchmark assessment only able to cover and include the more general topics.
The Boston baseline assessment will provide a learner with an indication in terms of readiness to pursue either the IGCSE Math or AS-level Math. Cambridge do not prescribe these, nor any other assessment as such, but we provide these with the intention to give a learner an experience of the Cambridge assessment approach and also assessing some fundamental aspects that a learner need to have mastered in their previous studies.
